The Biblical image of the perfect Christian community is one where the sharing of the Gospel and the teaching of the Apostles takes place. In this sharing, the community realizes its life in God through Jesus Christ. An awareness of fellowship and belonging is strengthened by ‘remaining faithful to the teaching of the Apostles, to the community, to the breaking of bread and to prayer' [Acts 2:24].
For two thousand years, communities of believers have dedicated themselves to living in this Biblical image. The Tradition of the Church teaches that our Christian identity is established by being a member of a community that worships together and celebrates the sacraments.
Members of St. George Church are those Orthodox believers who participate in the shared learning, worship and faith of the parish (Acts 2:42-47). The criteria for membership in the parish is fundamentally determined by the individuals' willingness to accept, profess and practice the Orthodox Faith. A parishioner is a person who officially enrolls as a member of St. George Orthodox Church, whose membership form is on file in the church office and whose name is listed in the official directory of the parish.
Members of the parish regularly attend the Liturgy and receive the Sacraments of Confession and Communion. Members participate in the life of the community by active involvement in one or more church organization and by supporting parish programs. A member is expected to contribute to the financial stability of the parish by making an annual pledge of monetary support.
Our annual Pledge Program allows us to fulfill our financial obligation. In order to achieve a sound and solvent financial picture with a balanced budget, it is essential that everyone contribute honestly and generously. Each adult parishioner is asked to make an annual pledge of financial support to the parish. This fair-share pledge is part of the requirement for membership in the parish.
Our financial support of St. George parish is not an option, it is our responsibility. We are each asked to prayerfully consider the amount we intend to pledge in thanksgiving for the many blessings that we enjoy from God. The mission of the Church and the success of St. George parish are impossible without our loving and generous support.
