St. George Pledge Program
A Gift From The Heart
"We offer You Your own from what is already Yours always and everywhere."
Each year every parishioner of St. George Church is asked to make a pledge of financial support to the parish. Our financial pledge is part of the requirement for membership in the parish. Parish membership implies that the parishioner participates in the Liturgical life of the parish, receives the Sacraments and pledges to the financial stability of the Church. The annual Pledge Program allows us to fulfill our financial obligation. In order to achieve a sound and solvent financial picture with a balanced budget, it is essential that everyone contribute honestly and generously. Our financial support of the parish is not an option; it is our responsibility. Each of us is asked to prayerfully consider the amount we intend to pledge in thanksgiving for the many blessings we enjoy.
Our St. George Pledge Program is based on the principle of proportionate giving. It involves two key elements: first; our level of giving rises out of our personal wealth and second; our gift is a thankful response for God's many blessings. The Bible teaches, "All shall give as they are able, according to the blessing of the Lord your God that He has given you." Deuteronomy 16:7.
Such giving conforms to the Bible's teaching about wealth and possessions. Everything we have is a gift from God and we respond by returning a portion of our wealth for the work of His Church. Our Pledge Program puts the emphasis on the parishioner who gives from the heart out of his or her wealth. As the Bible instructs us, "With every gift show a cheerful face, and dedicate your offering with gladness." Sirach 35:11.
St. Paul tells us what our economic principle is, "As for the rich in this world, charge them neither to be haughty, nor to set their hope on uncertain riches, but on God who richly furnishes us with everything we enjoy. We are to do good, to be rich in good deeds, liberal and generous, treasuring up for ourselves a good foundation for the future, so that we may take hold of the life which is life indeed." 1 Timothy 6:18-19.
At St. George, the Pledge Program is the economic foundation of the parish. A foundation built on the principle of proportionate giving is both desirable and essential for the success of our parish. With this foundation, St. George will realize its genuine possibilities for spiritual and temporal growth. The life of the individual Christian and of our parish will be greatly blessed by this program. As we pray at the Liturgy;
