At the entrance (Service Book page 97):
1) TROPARION OF THERESURRECTION – Tone 5: Let all us believers give praise andworship to the Word, of one essence with the Father and with the Spirit and whois eternal. Who was born of theVirgin for our salvation. For Hedid willingly ascend in the flesh to be hung from the Cross and to suffer painand death, and to lift up the dead by His glorious Resurrection.
2) THE ENTRANCE HYMN: O Come, let us worship and fall downbefore Christ. O son of God, whoart risen from the dead save us who sing unto thee: Alleluia.
3) Repeat #1 above.
4) TROPARION OF ST.MARY OF EGYPT – Tone 2: Withoutstain was God's image preserved in you, O holy mother, Mary, for you took upyour cross and followed the Lord. By word and example you taught us to live inthe spirit while still in the flesh, so that, now, you rejoice with the angelsof heaven.
5) TROPARION OF ST.GEORGE – Tone 4: As deliverer of captives and defenderof the poor, healer of the infirm, champion of kings, victorious, Great MartyrGeorge, intercede with Christ our God for our soul’s salvation.
6) KONTAKION FOR THETHEOTOKOS – Tone 2: O undisputed intercessor of Christians, the mediatrix who is unrejected by theCreator, turn not away from the voice of our petitions, although we be sinners, come to us with aid in time who cry unto Thee in faith, for thou art good. Hasten to us with intercessions, OTheotokos, who dost ever intercede for those who honor thee.
Prokeimenon: Makeyour vows to the Lord our God and perform them.
Godis known in Judah; his name is great in Israel.
EPISTLE: The reading is from St. Paul to theHebrews.
(Chapter9:11-14.)
BRETHREN, when Christ appeared as a high priest of the goodthings to come, then through a greater and more perfect tabernacle, (not madewith hands, that is, not of this creation), he entered once for all into theHoly Place, taking not the blood of goats amd calves but his own blood, thussecuring an eternal redemption. For if the sprinkling of defiled persons with the blood of goats andbulls and with the ashes of a heifer sanctifies for the purification of theflesh, how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spiritoffered himself without blemish to God, purify your conscience from dead worksto serve the living God.
THEHOLY GOSPEL ACCORDING TO ST. MARK.
(Chapter10:32-45.)
At thattime: Jesus took the twelve aside, and he began to tell them whatwas to happen to him, saying, "Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem; andthe Son of man will be delivered to the chief priests and the scribes, and theywill condemn him to death, and deliver him to the Gentiles; and they will mockhim, and spit upon him, and scourge him, and kill him; and after three days hewill rise." And James andJohn, the sons of Zebedee came forward and said to him, "Master, we wantyou to do for us whatever we ask of you." And he said to them, "What do you want me to do for you?" And they said to him, "Grant us tosit, one at your right hand and one at your left, in your glory." But Jesus, said to them, "You donot know what you are asking. Areyou able to drink the cup I drink, or to be baptized with the baptism withwhich I am baptized?" Andthey said to him, "We are able." And Jesus said to them, "The cup that I drink you willdrink; and the baptism with which I am baptized, you will be baptized; but tosit at my right hand or at my left is not mine to grant, but it is for thosefor whom it has been prepared." And when the ten heard it, they began to be indignant at James andJohn. And Jesus called them to himand said to them, "You know that those who are supposed to rule over theGentiles lord it over them, and their great men exercise authority overthem. But it shall not be so amongyou; but whoever would be great among you must be your servant, and whoeverwould be first among you must be the slave of all. For the Son of man himself came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many."
