VARIATION IN TODAY'S DIVINE LITURGY
At the entrance (Service Book page 97):
1) TROPARION OF THE RESURRECTION - Tone 2: When Thou didst submit Thyself unto death, O Thou deathless and immortal One, then Thou didst destroy Hell, with Your Godly power. And when Thou didst raise the dead from beneath the earth, all the powers of Heaven did cry aloud unto Thee, O Christ Thou giver of life, Glory to Thee, O our God.
2) THE ENTRANCE HYMN: O Come, let us worship and fall down before Christ. O son of God, who art risen from the dead save us who sing unto thee: Alleluia.
3) Repeat #1 above.
4) TROPARION OF ST. JOHN CHRYSOSTOM - Tone 8: Grace hath shone forth from thy mouth like fire, illuminating the inhabited world. Thou hast treasured for the world the treasures of silver-hating and revealed to us the sublimity of humility. Wherefore, O educator, by thy words, O John the golden-mouth, intercede with Christ God to save our souls.
5) TROPARION OF ST. GEORGE - Tone 4: As deliverer of captives and defender of the poor, healer of the firm, champion of kings, victorious, Great Martyr George, intercede with Christ our God for our soul's salvation.
6) KONTAKION OF THE PRESENTATION OF OUR LORD- Tone 1: Thou, O Christ God, who by thy Birth, dist sanctify the Virgin's womb, and as is meet, didst bless Simeon's arms, and didst also come to save us;preserve thy fold in wars, and confirm them who thou didst love, for thou alone art the Lover of mankind.
Prokeimenon: My mouth shall speak wisdom and the meditation of my heart shall bring forth understanding. Hear this all you nations.
The Epistle Reading is from St. Paul's Letter to the Hebrews (Chapters 7:26-28; 8:1-2).
Brethren, it was fitting that we should have such a high priest, holy, blameless, unstained, separated from sinners, exalted above the heavens. He has no need, likethose high priests, to offer sacrifices daily, first for his own sins and then for those of the people; he did this once for all when he offered up himself. Indeed, the law appoints men in their weakness as high priests, but the word of the oath, which came later than the law, appoints a Son who has been made perfect for ever.
Now the point in what we are saying is this: we have such a high priest, one who is seated at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaven, a minister in the sanctuary and the true tent which is set up not by man but by the Lord.
The Holy Gospel according to St. Luke (Chapter18:35-43)
At that time, when Jesus drew near to Jericho, a blind man was sitting by the roadside begging; and hearing a multitude going by, he inquired what this meant. They told him, "Jesus of Nazareth is passing by." And he cried, "Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!" And those who were in front rebuked him, telling him to be silent; but he cried out all the more, "Son of David, have mercy on me!" And Jesus stopped, and commanded him to be brought to him; and when he came near, Jesus asked him, "What do you want me to do for you?" He said, "Lord,l et me receive my sight." And Jesus said to him, "Receive your sight; your faith has made you well." And immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus, glorifying God; and all the people, when they saw it, gave praise to God.
Special note: Except for those who are elderly and/or disabled, please remain standing during Holy Communion.
NEXT WEEK'S HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT: I Timothy 4:9-15; Luke 19:1-10.
