O my joy, Christ is Risen!

Christ is risen from the dead, trampling down death by death, and upon those in the tombs bestowing life. He also gave life to us who still live in the world, because our sins have become our grave.

Christ is risen and we have risen, so be glad because the Lord opened for us the way to paradise.

Rejoice and I say to you, rejoice, no one will take away this joy! The joy of the Resurrection!

Saint Athanasius says: The Risen Christ makes all life a continuous feast, a feast without end. He brings us together with the risen Christ from the dead, and we will remain in the feast.

"Rejoice!" And “let the heavens truly rejoice, and the earth be glad. Let the whole world celebrate. What is seen and what is unseen. Because Christ, the eternal pleasure, has risen!”

"Let all creation return to the resurrection of Christ, by which it is strengthened." The Church invites us to dance on the feast and to celebrate divine joy, "because Christ is risen." Even the dead who are bound by chains of Hell, "They rushed to the light on the Day of Resurrection, dancing at the feet of pleasure, clapping for the eternal Passover."

We are resurrected, and we live in the Resurrection every day, and we live with joy.

Christianity is the religion of joy par excellence. Joy in what God has done, is doing, and will do for us forever and ever. Whatever happens to us in this life, joy will have the last word if we cling to Christ.

Therefore, the resurrection is the most important event in the history of Christianity, “If Christ is not risen, then our faith is vain ... We are the most miserable of all people.” We rejoice because life is not a journey on a bus to death, but a journey from God to God, a journey to a place specially prepared for us by the risen Christ, who said: “…I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.” (John 14: 2,3).

Christ is risen, how can we not rejoice? The disciple of Christ - as confirmed by Saint Isaac the Syrian - who lives without joy commits a great betrayal, so what it means to be in Christ is to abide in him and live with him and in him.

Resurrection is an act of life that we take from God and live by, and it is the flow of strength that helps us continue with the Lord and with the brotherhood. Christ is risen and we are raised from the death of sins, as to not return to death. Life is much better than death. We are children of life and children of light, so let us live and be joyful.    Fr. Ghassan Haddad.
